The Spring Bird

God is like the spring bird, whom we don't always see but recognize his presence by his song. A song that immediately uplifts and refreshes the heart and mind, and encourages us to look around our environment for evidence of his existence. Indeed, the sun radiates with growing strength, the light is lengthened, the snow melts, the warmth is felt, and new life is witnessed in the green shoot. Yes, the spring bird has arrived, the spring bird is surely here.

For me this serves as an inspiring reminder to recognize the existence of God in our own lives even though we may not readily see Him, but can perceive in other ways how He sings life into our days and alerts us to His good and life-giving presence. The laughter and joy of a child, the encouraging words of a friend, the inspiring and heartfelt story of stranger helping stranger.

All such things and the like are comparable to the song of the spring bird. Similarly, these experiences are like the musical notes that resonate with God's sustaining song and bear witness to His presence amidst us, encouraging us to look around to see the further evidence that, yes, God is surely here. Here in the smile that radiates, in the visit that is lengthened, in the melting of cold hearts and the warmth felt in a loving embrace, these things that sprout life. May we not only have the eyes to see such things and know but also the courage to join in this miraculous choir!

Amen
